Thank you Greater London Scout Region!

News

As we approach the end of 2007, we can reflect on the last twelve months. One thing’s for certain, it’s been extremely busy for everyone, we’ve had some excellent publicity and more people than ever want to join us!

I had the privilege to visit a number of County Centenary events during the year and what I saw was a number of very proud people, thoroughly enjoying Scouting in a number of very different ways, celebrating our 100th birthday in true Scouting style.

We enter the next 100 years of Scouting healthier, buoyant and more robust than we have been for a number of years. We’ve laid the foundations from which we can continue to grow and develop Scouting in Greater London and I look forward to working with you all to achieve this.

It just leaves me to say, thank you most sincerely for all you have done this year, working so hard to deliver quality, enjoyable Scouting each week and at the same time, celebrate our Centenary and show the world just what Scouting has to offer everyone.

I would like to wish you all a very enjoyable holiday and a very Happy New Year.

Best wishes for 2008 and Happy Scouting.

Welcome to the website for the Scout County of Greater London North East

A Message from our Regional Commissioner - 2007 – A Year to Remember!

Welcome to Greater London North East Scout Website in this, our Centenary year. Our Centenary year is not only an opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Scouting, it’s also a chance to prepare our County for the next 100 years!

We will see throughout 2007, a year full of fun-packed activities both locally, within our Districts and County, and also nationally with a range of events from Centenary Camps, The MegaGig in Manchester, The 21st World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park, Festival of Scouting at the O2 Arena and Sunrise Ceremonies on 1 August 2007.

Locally, we will be celebrating by bringing together members from across the County for a mega activity day in Chigwell, Founders Day Service where more than 800 members of GLNE will celebrate and remember Baden Powell, Kubadoo event for Cub Scouts and Beaver Scouts and the Showstoppers Gangshow.

2007 will provide further opportunities for Greater London North East Scout County. We will take this opportunity to promote Scouting in a positive light by telling everyone about what Scouting has to offer new members. We will take advantage of the media coverage throughout 2007 to increase our adult and youth recruitment in the County and grow and develop further the 140 Scout Groups in GLNE.

Our strategic objectives for 2007/2008 will continue to focus on six key themes:

A Growing Movement – To increase membership across the County. A Youth Movement – Led by young leaders with appropriate skills and qualities, supported by experienced qualified volunteers. A Focused County – Fewer but larger and stronger Groups, managed by experienced leaders with the right skills and qualities. A Sound County – With common purpose, clear direction and sound management. A Relevant County – Providing our members with good, quality and enjoyable Scouting that will provide them with the skills they will use in later life. A Diverse County – Reflecting and celebrating the diverse community we serve.

Whether you’re an existing member of the movement or considering becoming a member of Scouting in GLNE, join us on our exciting journey. Let’s make Greater London North East even bigger and better!

I wish everyone a truly great year!

Dean Milton: Regional Commissioner
