The award winners were chosen from over 7,800 adult volunteers involved in London Scouting in order to thank them for their outstanding service to young people.

New DC for East London
by Dean Jefferys, County Commissioner
I am pleased to announce that Alan Hands has been appointed as the new District Commissioner for East London as from 1st April 2008. Alan has had a long background in Scouting, having joined as a youth member in Tower Hamlets following a chance meeting with a local Scout Leader.
Alan eventually became Group Scout Leader of the 4th Poplar, before leading the GLNE and GLN Contingent to the World Scout Jamboree in Thailand. In addition, Alan served as District Commissioner for Ilford NorthWest for five years and is currently Group Scout Leader of a Sea Scout Group in Ilford.
Alan brings with him a wealth of experience in all aspects of Scouting and is looking forward to being a unifying presence in East London. Alan was the favoured choice of the District Search Group and I am delighted that he has agreed to take on the position. He brings with him local knowledge, but he is also an outsider, having not being actively involved in the area for some years.
I am sure you will all join me in welcoming me to this key role and will give Alan your support as he works to grow and develop Scouting in East London.

Message from the CC
Welcome
to the second centenary of Scouting! Our first hundred years marked
not the end, but merely the beginning and we need to build upon this
to continue to give 'better scouting for more young people' across
the County of Greater London North East.
I hope that 2008 proves to be just as exciting and rewarding as our centenary year. The new design for this website is just part of the package of better support which we hope to unveil in the near future for all our adults in scouting. I hope in due course to announce the revised County Team and Structure and details of our vision upto 2012 and beyond.
I would like to repeat my respect and admiration for all of our adult volunteers who work so hard to provide exciting and adventurous weekly programmes and residential events for our 7,000 plus members.
I look forward to working with you all to ensure the ongoing success and vitality of Scouting in GLNE
