New Adult Appointments Process
As of Sunday 1st March 2009, Greater London North East will officially go 'live' with the New Adult Appointments Process. Gilwell have been informed and as of Sunday will expect Appointments Secretaries to be entering the data from the new blue AA Forms locally on the Membership Management System. Part C of the pink AA Forms can still be submitted to Gilwell up to 6th October, providing you have already sent in Part B. All Districts have now received Module 37 "Advising on Adult Appointments" Training. The main benefits of the new process are that it should be simple, welcoming and quicker for new adults to join.

Mary June Flack
1941 - 2009
It is with much regret that I announce the passing of Mary June Flack after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 67.
Mary joining as a Cub Scout Leader in 1964 with the 10th Barking & Dagenham and later assisted the 17th Barking & Dagenham when the groups merged. However her impact is probably remembered most for her work at county level where she held the roles of ACC (Relationships) and ACC (Cub Scouts), supporting the development needs of the county throughout the mid to late 80s and pioneering the support and growth of the Cub Scout Section in the 90s.
Mary continued to move with the times and was our first County Scout Network Administrator on the launch of this new section and was also Local Training Manager for Hornchurch & Squirrels Heath with the new adult training scheme. Mary also grew increasingly close to Ilford East District, acting as a District Cub Scout Leader for a number of years.
Mary was a very special person whose presence enlightened any occasion. Her personal commitment to scouting enriched the lives of so many young people and adults that is is impossible to estimate the sheer number of people who benefited from her wisdom and guidance, but what is clear is that all who met her were all the better for the experience.
Her services to scouting were recognised by the Chief Scout with the 40 year Long Service Decoration and The Silver Acorn.
At this most difficult time all our thoughts are with her husband Ken, daughter Sarah and son-in law Darren, as well as their daughters - all of whom have Scouting connections.
We will of course forward on details of the funeral arrangements once we know.
New Deputy County Chairman
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Paul Danvers has accepted nomination as Deputy County Chairman with immediate effect. Paul will be contributing to the general running of the County Executive Committee and deputising for the County Chairman, Alan Dennison. Paul was previously Scout Leader of the 1st Ilford North Sea Scout Group between 1997 and 2006 and has been a member of the County Executive Committee since 2005. Professionally Paul is a Chartered Surveyor and will be bringing this expertise to the fore as we look into the redevelopment of the County Scout Centre. I am sure you join me in welcoming Paul to this key role.

Van emission charge plan halted
The Mayor of London has announced the scrapping of the proposed extension to the low emission zone policy, which would have had potentially damaging effects on numerous Group minibuses throughout Scouting and other charities and businesses. If implemented this policy would have led to very costly alterations to Group minibuses and the potential scrapping of many, so this is good news. I know a number of individuals lobbied hard on this issue and therefore I am pleased that everyone has been listened to and positive action taken as a result.
10th World Jamboree held in the Philippines in 1959
To whom it may concern, Please can you help us to trace some "Scouts" who attended the above Jamboree. We are a small group of "Old Scouts" aged between 64 and 67 years who attended the above Jamboree in July 1959. We are trying to trace all the Scouts who attended this Jamboree. Please circulate this request via email, word of mouth etc. as we are planning a reunion sometime in July this year to mark the 50 years anniversary of this very special Jamboree, those who attended would never forget the wonderful occasion. The Jamboree contingent consisted of 7 HQ Staff, 3 Scoutmasters, 8 ASM's and 94 Scouts. The Scouts and Leaders were divided into 3 Troops, A B & C. We have the names and address's (now 50 years old) of everybody who attended this Jamboree and to date we have traced 12 people. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated as we are having difficulty in tracing these "Old Scouts"
Please contact myself or the gentlemen below as we all attended this Jamboree.
