GLNE Census Figures

An overview of the numbers of people involved in local Scouting

It gives me tremendous pleasure to report to you the County Census Data for 2007. You will recall that for the first time in many years, "Congratulations on stopping the fall in Scout membership and indeed increasing membership. Well done and congratulations to all concerned."Jack Petchey OBE - County Vice Presidentwe reported to you an increase in membership in 2006 of 1.8% (the national average at the time was 0.1% increase). I can now advise you that we have shown a massive 3.7% increase in membership in the 2007 Census. That’s Two Hundred and Sixty Four new members benefiting from all that Scouting has to offer in GLNE.

Full figures and details

As you can see, the above figures are excellent results for Greater London North East Scout County. A true reflection of the high quality programme our adult leaders provide for our members week in, week out. My sincere appreciation to everyone for their contribution to the above and dedication to Scouting. A truly wonderful position to be in our Centenary year!

"Well done everyone on the census figures - good reading!"Col. Alan Hall - County President

"Congratulations to everyone in GLNE for a great reward for all the hard work and initiatives."David Shelmerdine - Secretary - The Scout Association "Thank you very much for sending us the 2006 figures with your note of congratulations to the leaders. There must be some wonderful stories in how those numbers have come about. Another 'gold star' for GLNE."Joan and Roy Walker - County Vice President "Great news! Congrats to all in the County,"Derek Twine - Chief Executive - The Scout Association

Congratulations GLNE!

2006 Census Review

It gives me tremendous pleasure to report this year’s 2006 Census figures to you. After several years of planning and hard work, your efforts have at last paid off!

"This is brilliant news and reflects the considerable thought and effort put in by all the members of your team. Please pass on my congratulations and thanks to you all - Well done."Peter Barnes - Chief Commissioner

I can advise you that as a County, we have our first increase in membership for many years, with 7229 members recorded - up130 in total. This 1.8% increase is a remarkable achievement and I would like to thank every leader, in every group for making this possible.

Our planning for a bigger and stronger County started several years ago with a close look at how we are structured both at County and District level. After making changes, we continued our emphasis on growth, development and quality Scouting for all.

The introduction of Development Plans and a quarterly census for every District followed and allowed Districts to focus on priorities and objectives and the ability to monitor progress.

The Recruit a Friend and County Buddy Badge initiatives have seen hundreds of young people recruited since their inception. Our Adult Recruitment Officer team are also beginning to see signs of success since starting in mid 2005. You will see further on in this report that we have seen a small increase in our adult membership, again the first for many years.

But none of the above would have been possible without the hard work, dedication and commitment of our adult leaders who week in, week out continue to offer quality and enjoyable Scouting to our members.

Thank you GLNE - You should all be extremely proud of this achievement!

County Census

Fourth Quarter 2005

I am pleased to report the fourth quarter County Census. As a County, our membership is up 6.2% on the January HQ Census although we have seen a 1% drop on last quarters County Census.

My sincere appreciation and thanks for all your hard work this quarter. The annual HQ Census will be due early in 2006 and Districts will begin collecting these figures in the New Year. There are positive signs that we should see a healthy annual increase for the first time in many years. Good luck everyone!
