Public Relations
PR Advice
by Steve May (ACC Communications)
What is good PR?
It is about good communications. Telling everyone about the organisation, what it has to offer and the good work we do. If we do not tell the public about ourselves, we can be sure that others will and not necessarily in a way we would like.
It's important that we promote the hundreds of good things that happen in our Colonies, Packs, Troops and Units each week. So why not have a go at preparing a Press Release and sending it to your local newspaper. Elsewhere in this section, you will find help in how to prepare a Press Release.
Also, you're not on your own. If you need help or guidance, contact your District Public Relations Officer who will be able to offer you advice.
"Right Tools"
As a County, we want to ensure you have the 'right' tools when you go out and meet the public, and that's just we are encouraging you to do, get out and meet them. It is not only good 'PR' but also helps to recruit new members. To help you with this, the following equipment is available for your use:
If you would like to use any of the above, please do not hesitate contacting me and we can arrange collection. Please note there is no charge for use of this equipment.
Finally, thank you to those leaders who already realise the importance of publicising their efforts. Please continue to do so and to those who don't, give it a try!
