County Cub Chess 2002

Sunday 17th March saw the annual County Cub Scout Chess Competition being held at St. Anne's Church Hall in Chingford. Teams of four Cubs from virtually every District took part in this hard-thought competition which was overseen by Chingford Chess Club.

The eventual winner came from Ilford North, so next year they will have the dubious honour of hosting the event. Cub Scouts from Epping Forest South and Hornchurch came Second and Third respectively. The certificates and winners medals were presented by Charles Paddon, County Cub Scout Leader.

On behalf of all the districts that took part, a big thank you to Ian Langbridge and Grace Morl of Chingford District who organised the competition so well.

As an aside, the competition took nearly three hours to complete, so what do you imagine the leaders did during all this time? Well apart from drinking copious amounts of tea and coffee, myself and Beryl Silk (DC-Squirrels Heath) engaged in a grudge match of 'Jenga', which she won by two games to one. Who says leaders can't have just as much fun at these events!"
