County Cub Sports Day 2002
We may have been few in number but all those who took part or watched had a brilliant time at the 2nd County Cub Sports Day. This year we were lucky enough to use the Walthamstow Pool and Track Stadium, thanks to a Cub Leader having a contact in the Sports Development Team. The staff at the pool were exceptionally helpful.
All five Districts, Chingford, Epping Forest South, Leyton, Ilford East and Walthamstow took part with true Cub enthusiasm.
There were a range of activities both track and field, even an extra-high jump! The Cubs all received a medal at the close of the day, even the Cub from one District who was seen running back round to the start in the 800m race.
The sandpit competition which 'evolved itself 'was duly watched by Pat Towler unfortunately no decision was made as the Fellowship were efficient in their tidying up and had demolished the exhibits before a judgement could be made. Cubs do have a way of making their own entertainment! The Cubs obviously enjoyed the facilities to the full; many wanted to return next year.
Throughout the day the Fellowship were seen dodging cricket balls, raking sandpits measuring jumps and even taking part in the occasional egg and spoon race (a sight not to be missed.) The fellowship did us proud with the eager way in which they carried out their duties both on and off the track. Thank you to Malcolm Wetherell and his team.
Well done to Walthamstow District who carried off the Trophy with 154 points and a very close second for Epping Forest South with 153 points.
Congratulations to all those who took part in whatever capacity we have surly given some of our young people something to remember.
