Run Run Run...
Cub Sports Day 2004
Sunday 26th September 76 eager Cub Scouts lined up for the 3rd County Cub Sports day at Ashton's Playing Field. Seven Districts out of eleven entered teams. Not all teams had their full compliment of Cubs; nevertheless they were still keen to do their best.
The day commenced with the 50 meters run for the under 9 ½s, while the over 9 ½s took aim with a cricket ball. As the day progressed there were a few surprises especially with some of he distances they could throw a cricket ball (one or two leaders soon learnt to dodge low flying balls.) Before lunch all competitors took part in the 400meters run. There were many determined Cub Scouts aiming to cross the finishing line first, they stopped for no one! By the end of the day, several hours later the trophy was eventually held aloft by Walthamstow. All Cubs went home with a medal, tired feet and huge smiles along with a sense of achievement. Everyone pulled together to make the day a great success, there were many new faces who all pitched in to help, creating a sense of real team effort.
Many parents who spent the day watching thanked us for giving their children a true experience and the opportunity to use a real running track!
I would like to give extend a personal thank you to the Fellowship for their continued help and support. I am not sure who enjoys it more the Cubs or Fellowship? Our next event is the County Quiz 28th November.
