Our Vision and Strategy: 2005-2008

County Communications

In the recent past, the County has made some excellent strides towards improved communications with the local community through the development of the County Website, Newsletter and locally through involvement in community projects. This will be continued and the County Communications Strategy will be reviewed to ensure that in the future we are able to build on our successes and publicise our successes with the whole community in North East London.

Target

A new Communications Strategy to be put in place by December 2005

Vision & Strategy

Scouting in Diverse Communities

We are at the beginning of a journey into a more diverse County membership. In the first instance the County will ask the Blue-Sky Development Group to consider how we can become more diverse and welcome members into our Groups regardless of their circumstances. The results of this discussion will lead us to identify our key priorities for the future.

Diversity in the County Administration

The County will look to work with local religious and community leaders to identify individuals who can advise the executive on issues of diversity. It may be that this develops into a diversity think tank to work together with the executive to support the expansion of the County into new communities. It may also be that we need to look to co-opt members onto the County Executive to support this process.

Target

To appoint an appropriate person to the County Executive and Blue Sky Group to advise on Diversity issues by December 2005

Relevant to the Community

From 1st January 2007 all Scout Groups will be mixed. In Greater London North East we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible and as such we aim to ensure that all Groups are suitably prepared and fully understand the implications of this policy. We will encourage Groups to accept girls as soon as they can and we acknowledge that this may require extra support and training for some leaders. We aim to provide this.

Target

Between now and 1st January 2007, we will continually promote, encourage and support both groups and Districts in preparation for this change.
