Our Vision and Strategy: 2005-2008

Safe Activities/Risk Assessments

A key to making Scouting relevant and exciting for young people is the promotion of safe activities. The County will continue to promote the services of its qualified team of experienced leaders in caving, climbing, archery, water activities etc and leaders will be encouraged to use these services. This will be supported with the training of new leaders, with the profile of activities and the need for safe risk assessment becoming a key element of the leader-training programme, for which, sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation, leaders can receive up to 50% towards the cost of undertaking activity training. We also intend to become increasingly proactive about the promotion of activities; especially with regard to the circulation of factsheets and programme ideas such as “Urban Outdoors”. We will continue to promote / train leaders in carrying out Risk Assessments for all activities to ensure that our members may undertake Scouting activities safely.

Target

We will continue to train leaders on our leadership courses on the importance and completion of Risk Assessments which can also be downloaded from the County Website. We will continually promote 'Risk Assessments' through North East and the County Website. We will become increasingly proactive about the circulation of activities fact sheets and programme ideas.

Vision & Strategy

Saying Thank You

Scouting should be relevant to the adults involved as well as to the young people who are our members. Saying ‘Thank You’can often mean a lot to our leaders. It is important that we not only recognise the efforts of leaders but that we don’t also forget to thank them for what they are doing. We will take every opportunity to thank leaders and mean it when we say it. We need to build on the successes of “Party at the Park” and plan to find new and alternative ways to show our sincere gratitude to the leaders in Greater London North East.

Target

Through use of County and District Newsletters, we will regularly thank our leaders and supporters for their efforts. Both at District and County level, we will explorer further opportunities to bring leaders and supporters together socially.

Target

The Blue Sky Group will consider alternative ways to thank leaders and their partners for all of their hard work for Scouting.

Relevant to the Community

We aim to continue to benefit from the political support of the Borough Councils and Local Authorities. We aim to demonstrate Scoutings benefit to them by continuing to support events such as the Havering, Newham, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge Shows. We need to look at how we maximise our opportunities from these events, perhaps utilising the Mobile Display Unit to ensure that we recruit adults from these events. To achieve this we need to audit what is currently happening, share the successes and build upon them.
