Our Vision and Strategy: 2005-2008
Recruit a Friend
This unique recruitment tool has already proved to be a huge success. Sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation, it rewards young people who make considerable effort to recruit others into Scouting. This is an invaluable tool for many leaders, who have in the past, found it difficult to recruit young people.
Target
We will continue to promote and raise the profile of this initiative. We will encourage mroe groups to use the scheme over the coming year. We will aim to have recruited a total of 100 members each year for years 2005, 2006 and 2007 through this initiative.
Buddy Badge
Using a recent National initiative, this badge was implemented across the County and is used by the Cub and Beaver sections. Young people who recruit and assist new members through their induction into Scouting will be awarded the new ‘County Buddy Badge.’
Target
Each year, we aim to award 150 Buddy Badges for years 2005, 2006 and 2007
Young Peoples Representation
Our County Executive has, for some years, pioneered representation of young people by co-opting young people onto the executive. We know that a number of Districts and Groups do similarly. It is our aim to increase the participation of young people in the management of the County and its Districts over the next few years. To achieve this, we can offer them training and if there is sufficient interest will run a “speakeasy” course in the County to help the young people make their voice heard. We believe that for the County to remain a successful youth movement and to become increasingly relevant to those young people, we need to listen to their views and wishes and be guided by their visions of the future.
The Scout Network
Greater London North East has made huge strides into making this new section a success. We need to build on this success as the Scout Network is the future leadership of our County. To achieve this we will work closely with our neighbouring Networks within the region to develop opportunities for growth and to offer the most exciting opportunities possible to our membership. We need to look at ways of giving access to young people who move to London to attend university or for work. In conjunction with this we need to look at partnerships with other organisations where our programme and aims allow us to work together for mutual benefit. At the same time we need to ask the Scout Network members to be increasingly proactive in how they support Scouting and in the ways in which they can do that.
Explorer Scouts
Many of our Districts have an exciting and full Explorer Scout programme running with great success. We wish to offer this to as many young people as possible within the Greater London North East area so that they can also benefit from the programme we offer. To support this the County will continue to run initiatives and programmes such as Endurance County Explorer/Network Scout Camp, Kilmuir Trophy and The Event. We will also work on ideas to grow the young leaders programme.
