General Questions
Q
What happens if I am in the middle of training already?
A
You will be appointed a Training Advisor who will develop a learning plan with you to complete your training under the new scheme. Previous training will be taken into account.

What happens if I change Groups or Counties?
A
If you change Counties you will be able to take your personal learning plan with you and continue training once you have been assigned a new Training Advisor.

Can I do courses in other Counties?
A
Yes but you should let your Training Advisor know first

When do I have to complete my training by?
A
Modules 1 to 3 have to be completed within 6 Months. The other modules you need to complete need to be done within 3 Years.

How long does the First Aid course certificate last?
A
The certificate lasts 3 Years.

Who should pay for my training?
A
Most Scout Groups fund their Leaders Training. Some boroughs will also reimburse some training costs.
Changing Sections and Validation

What happens if I change sections?
A
If you change sections you will need to re-formulate your Personal Learning Plan to take account of your new section. Your Training Advisor will assist you with this. (You may also get a new Training Advisor who is experienced at working with your new Section).

How do I Book courses?
A
The forms are available on the Website and need to be completed and returned to the County Registrar. All of the details are on the form

Will there still be weekend courses?
A
Yes there will still be some. Check the Training Calendar for details.

What happens when I finish all my modules?
A
Once you have completed all your Modules (they have been validated) Gilwell Park will be informed so the Wood Badge can be awarded.

Are some courses invite only?
A
Some of the supplementary modules are invite only. These modules are targeted at Leaders in Scouting who undertake specialist roles.

What happens if there is not a course/session for the module I need?
A
Modules may be available in a neighbouring County and you could attend there. Upon request the training team will provide additional courses/sessions. Additionally some Modules have workbooks, other Modules have DVD/ Videos and some others can be completed using e-learning.

If I attend a course why do I still need my learning Validated?
A
An important part of the new training scheme is ensuring people can put into practice what they have learnt or prove what they may already know. This is why the leaning needs to be Validated.

How do I find out who my TA is?
A
Contact your Local Training Manager, they will be able to tell you.

What happens if my TA Leaves?
A
If your Training Advisor leaves then your Local Training Manager will assign you another one.

What happens if I disagree/do not get on with my TA?
A
If you disagree or don't get on with your Training Advisor then contact your Local Training Manager.

How often am I expected to talk/ meet with my TA?
A
As often as you wish. You will agree the frequency of your meetings with your Training Advisor when you draw up your leaning plan.

If I disagree will my TA's assessment for a module who can I talk to, what is the process?
A
Firstly you would need to speak to your Local Training Manager. If you are still unable to resolve the issue then it will be referred to the County Training Manager.
