Jamboree Selection Camp

Recently, 154 excited Young People from across Greater London North East (GLNE) came together for the Jamboree Selection Camp, where they competed for one of 72 places in the two GLNE units heading to the 26th World Scout Jamboree in 2026.

Over the course of the weekend, Scouts and Explorers took part in a wide range of activities designed to test their teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Challenges ranged from outdoor team tasks and creative problem-solving activities to personal reflection sessions and group discussions about what it means to represent GLNE and the UK on a global stage.

Once the Young People arrived and registered, they were divided into teams which they would work with throughout the weekend. They then spent the remainder of the day taking part in different activities such as a blinded rope walk, pioneering, and a Scout-themed quiz, all of which tested them in different ways! Once the sun went down, everyone congregated by the campfire for an hour of songs and skits, performed with great enthusiasm. The day then ended with a disco, where the Young People (and the Leaders!) showed off some impressive moves on the dance floor.

The camp awoke early on Sunday morning for several more hours of activities which, despite the late night, were met with the same level of enthusiasm as the day before. In the afternoon, the Scouts and Explorers joined together to form a human Jamboree logo!

The Leaders and volunteers were deeply impressed by the enthusiasm, maturity, and positivity shown by everyone involved. Many commented on how difficult it would be to make the final selections, as every participant gave their best effort and joined in all the activities with great spirit.

For those who will be chosen to attend the 26th World Scout Jamboree, the adventure of a lifetime awaits; a chance to join thousands of Scouts from around the world, explore new cultures, and celebrate unity through diversity.
