The Kilmuir Trophy took place in November of 2025 and was an amazing event offering Explorer Scouts and Network members a weekend that combined adventure, creativity, and a touch of organised chaos. This year the competition brought that spirit to life once again, with teams taking on challenges such as recreating yoga poses at well known London locations, building pasta models and assembling full sized blow football pitches, all while the city became the stage for a huge treasure hunt that had teams planning routes, racing between tasks and trying to make every minute count.
Part of the appeal comes from the incredible variety of challenges. Teams took part in photo and video tasks at some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, work through clever question based activities and search for items on a collection list that range from straightforward to delightfully unexpected and tackle creative builds that often result in impressive masterpieces produced in the early hours of the morning. It was by no means unusual to see one team setting up a precise photograph outside a historic site while another marches past with a homemade contraption that draws more than a few curious looks from passers by.
The atmosphere throughout the weekend is something that sets the Kilmuir Trophy apart. Day and night roll into each other, sleep became rare and teams rely on determination, quick thinking, and plenty of humour to keep going. There are shared laughs on station platforms, bursts of inspiration at unexpected moments and a genuine sense of excitement with every new challenge that appears.
